About Us
Greenbriar Plantation has a long and dedicated history of breeding quality English Labrador Retrievers.
The History of Greenbriar
Greenbriar Plantation was built and established in 1990 with Mr. and Mrs. Jim Burris. During that time period it was used in a variety of ways. First as a personal residence where angus cattle, quarter horses, and Labrador Retrievers were bred and raised. It was also a bed and breakfast, with hunting for trophy deer and turkey. Greenbriar Kennels started in 1993, which was the love of Mrs. Kaye, who passed away in 2008. In 2010, Kathy Sliz came to Greenbriar and helped the kennel continue its operations. In 2023, the final litters left, and Teddy and Arlene Hiott purchased the operation and transferred it to Holly Hill, SC. During that time period, over 1,000 families came to Greenbriar and found their next companion, an English Labrador puppy!
Those puppies would go on to serve with Connecticut State Police, Port Authority in NYC, and SLED in South Carolina. They would also work as service and therapy dogs. Gentlemen gun dogs and best friends would be the best descriptive adjectives regarding this beloved breed. The families that our puppies went home to have come from all walks of life with a shared love individually for these great dogs!
To our great surprise, many of the owners were well known and most accomplished. As we look back, we see John Kerry former Secretary of State, United States Senator, and Presidential candidate. Debroah Norville, star of Inside Edition, World Series Champ Trot Nixon of the Boston Red Sox, a producer from Saturday Night Live, an admiral, a general, and other officers within the Marine Corps, along with doctors, lawyers, and Native American Chiefs.
Arlene and Teddy Hiott
We are Teddy and Arlene Hiott, the new owner and operators of Greenbriar Plantation. In 2022, we had the honor of working with Mr. Jim Burris to transition the kennels to our property in Holly Hill. We are a family-owned and operated breeder of English Labrador Retrievers.
Although our site attempts to capture the beauty that is Greenbriar Plantation, when it comes to breeding English lab puppies, all facilities are not created equal. We believe that proper care is a large part of ensuring that our dogs are happy and how they go on to be award-winning pups. With our love for dogs being the forefront of our passion, we put our heart and soul into the betterment of the breed and are honored to help you find your next companion.
" As breeders we are committed to three things. First, breed a better dog with the proper mating in looks, training ability, and behavior. Second, breed a healthy dog that conforms to the standards of the breed. Third, place the dog into the proper environment. "
